Weekly Shout Out

phoenix2

Hello there, pretty little ponies!

We hope you had a lovely weekend and that you are enjoying the beautiful September weather.

This week’s shout out is devoted to live theatre and, this week in particular, the Phoenix Theatre at U-Vic. Phoenix productions enable burgeoning theatre artists to showcase their talents on and off the stage.  Students are involved in every aspect of production:  acting, directing, design, costumes, props, sets and lighting.

This year’s line up is particularly exciting for us as theatre goers as it includes Bertolt Brecht’s dazzlingly inventive Threepenny Opera as well as the whimsical play Loon, and classic works by Anton Chekhov and Tennessee Williams.  Not only do we get to see Victoria’s most talented up and comers, but subscriptions are a veritable BARGAIN, four plays for just $50.00 or three for $37.50.  You get to see a full scale live production at the equivalent of what you’d pay to see a movie.  You cannot do better than that.

We cannot wait to go to the Phoenix and, if you are a live theatre fan, you may wish to follow suit or explore some of the other theatre companies in town: Belfry Theatre, Intrepid Theatre (organizers of Uno and the Fringe Festival), Theatre Inconnu, and Langham Court Theatre to name a few.

Happy theatre going friends and we hope to see you at the Phoenix! Check out their website here: www.phoenixtheatres.ca
