Hello there, pretty ponies!

This week’s shout out is a no brainer.  U-Vic alumni Kate Braidwood of the Portland troupe Wonderheads brought her production of Loon to the Phoenix Theatre and we are immeasurably richer for it.

We don’t want to give too much away, suffice to say that we were held in thrall throughout the trim 50 minute running time. Braidwood performance is note perfect, each subtle movement and tilt of the head encapsulates the character and his unique universe.  Evocative lighting and an exquisite cello score (punctuated by some catchy pop tunes) add a measured depth and resonance.

We could keep gushing but we do not want to ruin the magic.  Please, for the love of all that is holy, go and see Loon.   Ticket prices are almost supernaturally reasonable, making this little bit of magic available for less than the price of a movie ticket (tickets are as low as $7.50 per person).

I hope the Wonderheads will bring their magic to Victoria again before long.   Not since Atomic Vaudeville’s production of Ride the Cyclone have we been this enchanted.  Loon, without exaggeration, made us fall in love with the stage all over again.

Run, don’t walk to the Phoenix and go see this and tell your friends!  Loon is running October 14-24 at  UVic Phoenix Theatre.

Here is but a taste of the magic:
