Sookjai Thai

sookjai4 sookjai-thai-restaurantHello there, pretty ponies!

We hope you are enjoying this misty, rainy hump day.  If the grey skies have you feeling down in the mouth, a little Thai cuisine may be just the thing to lift your spirits.  Our intrepid thrifty rooster about town, Paltry Pete, would like you to know that Sookjai Thai Restaurant on Fort has some lunch specials that will really feed you, at wallet friendly prices (lunch items range between $9.45 to $11.45). And the good news doesn’t stop there, Sookjai’s lunch menu is available from 11:30 am all the way to 5 pm.  So you can have a late lunch or early supper for little more than what you’d pay for a meal at a fast food restaurant (only a whole lot tastier and better for you).

We love the lunch combo A – which includes  Thai red curry (made with your choice of spiciness – mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot) loaded with chicken, Thai basil, red peppers, silky bamboo shoots, rice, crispy spring rolls and soup for just $10.95.  Or, if you are a noodle fiend, and we’d say that is using your noodle, go for the Phad Thai Moo and you’ll be served a platter groaning with rice noodles topped with pork, tofu, green onion, bean sprouts (AND a bowl of soup) for just $9.45.  Amazing bargain and with the portion sizes, you are sure to have leftovers for a midnight snack or supper.

Service at Sookjai is breezily efficient. The eatery is cozy and immaculately appointed.  We are lucky in Victoria to have a plethora of good Thai restaurants to choose from.  Sookjai Thai is one of our favourites, for ambiance, freshness of ingredients and the execution of dishes.  This restaurant remains open for dinner and, after 5 pm, the menu selection broadens.  A standout entree on a recent visit were the garlic prawns – the plump juicy shrimp were sauteed with sweet caramelized garlic and served on a bed of crunchy broccoli, carrots and snow peas.  We paired the dish with a cold beer and fluffy coconut rice.  Heavenly as a quick pre movie meal and good for warding off autumn colds and unruly vampires.

Have you been to Sookjai Thai? If so, what did you think?  Be sure to let us know.  We’d love to hear about your favourite Thai dishes.  As always, we love hearing from you.

Happy Hump Day, dear readers.  Try not to get too wet out there!

Love Paltry Pete and the rest of the gang at Horsing Around.
