Lounge Lizard – Double’s Lounge
As the mercury drops and the rain patters down in earnest, we crave the cozy warmth of a classic cocktail lounge. A place with dark wood panelling, plush banquettes, and flickering candle light. The sort of place where the ghost of Dean Martin might pull up a chair alongside you and regale you with tales of his Rat Pack days as you sip ice-cold, expertly made martinis. Double’s Lounge is just that sort of venue. Located adjacent to Bartholomew’s Pub, Double’s is not known to many, and this sophisticated hideaway begs to be discovered. If you are lucky enough to nab the primo seat by the fire (yes, there is a fireplace!) order a snifter brandy, kick back, and slowly feel the tensions of the day melt away as you bask in old-school ambiance. This is an ideal venue for a romantic tete a tete or a relaxed night out with friends.
Drinks at Doubles are moderately priced, and mostly of the classic variety, which suits us fine as we favour a gin martini, Manhattan, whiskey sour or Negroni over the fussy, twee concoctions favoured by mixology acolytes. If you need a little nourishment to soak up the booze, Double’s has a menu offering gourmet flat bread pizzas, salads, burgers, oysters, or charcuterie, dip and cheese platters (perfect for sharing).
We hope you’ll try Double’s as we feel it is one of those places off people’s radar, one of those rare establishments where you can have a drink and conversation without having to shout to be heard over background noise, and it has a sort of hotel style anonymity that may hasten the bonding process (or maybe it is just those bird-bathed size martinis).
