Foo Asian Street Food
Foo Asian Street Food opened on the heels of the perennially successful Noodle Box. The owners once lived in Asia and there they became smitten with Asian street stall vendor culture. Happily for us, they created a business in Victoria to emulate the hawker stall concept (but with a more relaxed vibe).
This ginger caramel chicken epitomizes everything we love about Vietnamese food – the perfect alchemy of fresh ingredients and contrasting textures, deftly combined
We have sampled widely from Foo’s menu. Some of the dishes don’t wow us. But we are giving Foo a nod because there is one notable exception, one thing you MUST try, and that is the Vietnamese ginger caramel chicken. It is rhapsodically good. Sweet and spicy morsels of fork tender chicken are paired with crispy fried Asian greens and served over a mound of steamed rice. For this alone we go back – the crunchy soft texture of the chicken and the salty/sweet flavor combination is divine. This dish epitomizes everything we love about Vietnamese food – the perfect alchemy of fresh ingredients and contrasting textures, deftly combined. It feels decadent, yet somehow you never feel gross or laden with grease after eating it.
Foo is right located across from the Odeon Theatre and that makes it an ideal spot for a quick bite before a movie, or phone ahead and place your order if you need to grab a quick lunch on the run. Honorable mention goes to the beef and broccoli short rib chow mien but here the chicken, irrespective of whether or not it crosses the road, is poultry in motion.
Location: 769 Yates, Victoria. View in Google Maps.
