Fifth Street Bar & Grill

Fifth Street Bar and Wood fire Grill has long been a favourite of ours as a place to go for a quick, casual bite. The restaurant is huge and airy with warm hardwood floors. It can be noisy at times, but not unduly so, we’d call it appealingly lively!

Fifth Street has recently raised their prices a little, but they are still one of the best deals in town. The flat bread is a particularly good bargain. It’s a large pizza like round of crisp on the outside tender on the inside flatbread slathered in a tapenade with shavings of parmesan. Other stand outs on the appie menu are the pommes frites with chipotle aioli, lemon and truffle oil, and the HUGE Caesar salad which is irresistibly lemony and garlicky.

Fifth Street has delectable thin crust pizzas ($12-14 for a pizza large enough to share).  The flavour is enhanced by the smokiness of the wood fire grill.  Also standout (for just $12.95!) is the juicy rotisserie chicken accompanied by mashed potatoes, gravy and tender crisp vegetables.  This is far better than anything you’d get at Swiss Chalet.  The lemon pepper chicken wings or the maple garlic wings are the best we’ve had anywhere (and delicious accompanied by the aforementioned pommes frites if you are feeling naughty).  Menu items rarely exceed $20.  Specials change regularly and are worth checking out.  On a previous visit, we enjoyed a crispy salmon fillet accompanied by a beautiful balsamic roasted potato salad.  Healthy and delicious!

Great Drink Deals

Fifth Street would be a great family destination as the menu has something for everyone and the food is consistently of good value and quality. Drink prices are competitive too. Many cocktails and beers are priced under $6 and there are daily drink specials.  We think Fifth Street is the perfect place to go for a quick bite before a movie at the good ol’ Roxy Theatre. After all, you’ll be so full from dinner you can avoid tussling with their famously cranky concession cashiers (why so glum chums?). Bon Appétit!
