Good morning, pretty ponies: How has your summer been so far?  We hope you are getting along swimmingly. There was a time when we lamented the lack of quality ice cream in our fair berg.   If you wanted a cone, you had to go to the overpriced tourist traps on Government Street for a […]

Howdy there pretty ponies! Hope you are having a lovely weekend. Summer weather has arrived at last! It is hard not to be exhilarated by the blue skies and enveloping warmth.   Here are a few things tickling our fancy this summery Sunday: Summer would not be summer without at least one road trip. Last […]

Good afternoon, pretty ponies!  How the heck are you? We have pre-empted our usual Sunday spiel in favour of a mid week shout out as this Saturday, the gang at H.A head to Parksville for our annual summer getaway. We miss the Coombs Market and the rooftop goats.  We hope you are thriving and having your […]

Weekly Shout Out – Saint Franks, Andy Shauf, Turtle Express

Greetings pretty ponies! First of all, we apologize that our hiatus from web wrangling went on much longer than anticipated.  We won’t bore you with the particulars, suffice to say, work/family obligations took precedent. Believe us when we say that if we had our druthers, we’d be out Horsing Around 24/7 but, sometimes, a man […]

La Taqueria – Victoria

Hello there, pretty ponies: It is no secret that we at H.A. H.Q. go rangy for all things Mexican – ESPECIALLY the nosh. As if in answer to our prayers, a number of quality Mexican eateries have cropped up around Victoria, each having its own devoted customer base. We don’t blame you one bit Victoria. […]

Frank’s Honey Bun Cafe

Hello there chicklets! Paltry Pete here, Victoria’s pre-eminent, value oriented rooster.  The holidays are fast approaching, and we need to keep our strength up for the onslaught of family, work, and social obligations that keep our timetables overflowing from now through to January. We want to fill our bellies for nourishment and succour, but we […]

On the Taco Trail

Hello there, pretty ponies! Monty and the gang at Horsing Around Headquarters have been on a mission of grave importance. We have been on the hunt to find Victoria’s most tantalizing tacos. It is a tough job, eating all that fab Mexican food, but dog gone it, someone has to get in the trenches, and that […]

Fisgard Market

Victoria is home to the oldest Chinatown in Canada and the second oldest in North America after San Francisco.  The picturesque neighborhood is one of our favourite areas in town for shopping, dining and exploring.  It is also the perfect place for budget savvy shoppers to find affordable groceries. Fisgard Market, located on its namesake, Fisgard Street, buzzes night and day with […]

La Taquisa

Eat La Taquisa Victoria BC Mexican Restaurant

High quality authentic Mexican food available from two “cafeteria-style” service locations. Fast, fresh, delicious and very cheap considering the quality of food. A “Pete’s Pick” for pleasing our palates and our pocketbooks.

Duffin’s Donuts

Duffin's Donuts Vancouver BC

Some of the most eclectic 24-hour menu selections in Vancouver. Mexican torta sandwiches, Fritou fried chicken, hamburgers, all-day breakfast, Chinese food, and Vietnamese noodle soup just to name a few (with a clientele as varied as the menu offerings). “Duck and cover” cold war décor with pre-fabricated furniture indestructible enough to survive nuclear Armageddon add to the charm. What more can we say except you might need some Rolaids after a visit to Duffin’s, but who cares when the food is as good and invigorating as these fine offerings.
